NSW Masters Athletics Shine at Sydney Track Classic

The NSW Masters athletes took centre stage at the Sydney Track Classic, delivering an impressive showcase of speed and determination as they attempted to break several state records. Seven teams took to the track, with outstanding performances leading to multiple new state records being set.
Record-Breaking Performances
Several teams successfully etched their names into the record books:
- M45+ Team – Ashley McMahon, Ryan Dowling, David Diep, and Steve Blacker stormed to a 45.36s finish, securing a new state record.
- W65+ Team – Jill Taylor, Sukie Southern, Christine Lamb, and Robyn Suttor clocked 1:05.90s, setting a new state record.
- M65+ Team – Daryl Ellis, Anthony Brown, Wayne Marriott, and Trevor Young completed their race in 55.27s, establishing a new state record.
Strong Contenders Just Short of Records
Other teams delivered exceptional performances but narrowly missed their record-breaking goals:
- W45+ Team – Nicki Drinkwater, Monique Perry, Joanna Davis, and Maryann Hearn finished in 50.81s, missing the state record by a mere 0.03 seconds.
- W60+ Team – Gianna Mogentale, Christine De Vries, Philippa Wight, and Julie Forster came agonizingly close to the World Record, missing it by just 0.23 seconds.
- W40+ Team – Liz Morrison, Alisa Moore, Margaret Simpson Lee, and Richelle Ingram delivered a strong performance. Margaret (50+) and Richelle (55+) supporting Liz and Alisa in competing within the 40+ category.
Historic Attempt by W30+ Team
The W30+ Team, comprising Christine Wearne, Kelly McAndrew, Kaisha Edwards, and Tinarra Wickey, put on a fantastic display with a 48.33s finish as they attempted to break the State and Australian record that has stood since 2007.
The Sydney Track Classic highlighted the remarkable talent and resilience of NSW Masters athletes. With multiple records shattered and near-misses hinting at future success, these competitors continue to push the boundaries of Masters Athletics, proving that age is no barrier to excellence on the track.
